Drive to Little Switzerland Inn

August started with our drive to lunch in Little Switzerland. The forecast scared off a few as we only had 4 cars to start, my TR3, a TR6, a TR250 and an MGB. We had a good drive up the mountain after a stop in Marion for any late arrivals.

NC 226A is a nice drive for LBCs. The sun was peeking out and the temperatures were comfortable. Everybody made it to the top without any trouble, and as we were about one or two miles from the Little Switzerland Inn, where we had reservations for lunch, we drove into a little fog. That is the clouds were surrounding the peaks at that point.

Good food, nice conversations and a relaxing time. Scott Huff, TR250, and Bob White, MGB, needed to get back home so they left first. Mark Wilson and his daughter, in his TR6, left just after Mary and I had and so far as I know, everyone got home without any problems.

The forecast had been for a 30% chance of rain in Marion that afternoon and I managed to find the 30%. After we left Marion we drove into a little rain shower. With the top down, we proved the theory that you just needed to speed up and you could stay dry. That worked for a couple of miles and then we caught up with two cars that wanted to go slower. About that time the rain got heavier and so the lead car slowed down even more. Guess who now got wet! We finally found a spot where we could get ahead of the slow poke and about a half mile further the rain stopped. The sun came out and the world heated up.

By the time we arrived in Shelby we were mostly dry. A pit-stop for fuel and potty gave us a place to raise the roof (primarily to keep the sun off us). The remainder of the drive was uneventful, and enjoyable. Talking to Steve a day or two later he confessed that they had not seen any rain in either direction. Go figure!
