Triumphs lined up during the car show competition at The Gathering

Founded in 1983 in Charlotte, the club quickly became a VTR Chapter and a TRA Local Center.  Shortly after, it hosted the first South Central British Car Gathering, with other local events following.  As the club started to attract members from other areas of North and South Carolina, it organized into four regions: Charlotte, Eastern, Southern, and Triad.

In 1991, while attending the VTR National Convention in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, a group of TCOC members decided to investigate the possibility of the TCOC hosting a VTR Convention. This led to the 1994 VTR in Asheville, one of its largest conventions to date with 327 registrations.

As the annual Gathering wandered from hotel to hotel in Charlotte, the club decided to move to a more successful location and time of year.  We found a new site on the grounds of Reynolda House and the Shops of Reynolda Village. Exceeding previous years’ attendance, there were still some limiting factors with this location. Club President Steve Ward began searching again for a new Gathering venue, and found one in the beautiful Shelton Vineyards, where we still meet annually each spring.

In addition to being a long-standing Vintage Triumph Register (VTR) Chapter and Triumph Register of America (TRA) Local Center, in 1998 we became a 6-Pack Chapter.

Most of our membership resides in North and South Carolina, but we have “relocated” members as far away as Hawaii, New York, California, Texas, Georgia and Florida.

All members receive The Triumph Tribune, our monthly newsletter featuring member contributions, technical articles, entertaining tales and event reports. Each year, we hold several tours, rallies and autocrosses, as well as technical sessions and lots of family-fun events.

The Gathering, a three-day multi-marque British car event held each April remains our flagship event for the year.
