Ice Cream Social

Sunday, August 3rd welcomed bright sunny skies and a break from the summer heat wave.  What a better way to celebrate a perfect summer day than to drive your Triumph and get some ice cream!  The Eastern Region was invited to join the Triangle Chapter of the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) for their annual ice cream social.  Sharon and I were invited to this event last year and when they found out we were members of another area car club, they asked us to invite the club for this year’s event.

11 Eastern Region members and 7 Triumphs showed up this year.  Ice cream was provided by the host club and featured NC State’s Howling Cow flavors “Wolf Tracks” and “Vanilla”.  There was a plethora of toppings and other desserts sides.  I think it took about 15 minutes to get through the line there were so many club members.

After cooling down with ice cream, everyone made their way to the large grassy area where the cars were parked.  It was great to see the Triumphs mingled in with the AACA cars, and the owners seemed to be doing a great job of that too.  One featured event was the Model-T Assembly Challenge.  This is a demonstration of an actual competition where a Model-T is disassembled into approximately 10 parts and then the clock starts to see how fast a team (usually 5) can assemble the car and drive it across a finish line.  It was real interesting event to watch.  Some said the record was just over 6 minutes!

The social was only scheduled for 2 hours, but after 3, there were still cars parked on the lawn and conversations to be had.
