What's more satisfying than driving a well-tuned British sports car through gorgeous twisty terrain? We've mapped out a beautiful route through the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. We'll be there to hand out directions from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, departing from the Hampton Inn..

Wrench Wracing Competition and Concours
Saturday, April
21

Take an enthusiast, a tool, four wheels and too much time on your hands and what do you have? Wrench Wracing!

In past years, Wrench Wracing has become one of the most fierce (and funniest) competitions of the weekend as mankind and tool go head-to-head in search of the fastest. This Pinewood Derby-style race requires little other than an extra tool or two, some time and an imaginative mind.

Watch as kids and kids-at-heart assemble to find out which wracer will be the first to the bottom of the hill. If you are planning on attending the Gathering, this event is one not to miss! It's definitely worth the small effort required to build up a wracer of your own!

There will be both match racing and a popular vote “concours” held for wrench racers.

All entries must be:

  • gravity powered;

  • no longer than 9” and no wider than 4”

  • weigh less than 2 lb

  • feature a hand tool as a major portion of their design.

For more information, contact Jamie Palmer.

Autocross
Sunday, April 22, 8 am–Noon

On Sunday, the Gathering Autocross returns.  Put your British iron through its paces as we compete for "Fastest Time of Day!"  Whether you are a novice or an autocross regular, you will have a great time!  If you don't want to run - come and watch - it's always exciting and fun. (First time I tried it, I got lost twice. And when I  did finish, I had the slowest time of the day and I still had fun!!!) Don't think you have to run all out to have fun at the autocross. Come on and try it out!

The autocross will take place at the Surry County Community College's Emergency Services Training Center driving course. The campus is located at 630 South Main Street, Dobson NC  27017.  Here's where you'll find  Directions and maps .

The Tech Inspection form is available here. We tech inspect your car prior to the event to make sure it's ready.  As an aside, we sometimes find some lurking problems that owners were unaware of.... (Just another free service from your friendly local British car club)

7:30 am - final timing set-up, course open for walking
8:00 am - final registration and tech inspections
8:15 am - drivers meeting and volunteer course worker assignments
8:30 am - first car off

Some participants may wish to walk the course, attend the drivers meeting, then go check out of the hotel and return for their timed runs, but every participant must have their car inspected  and attend the drivers meeting.
